Mr. Olango Vincent Otim  

Mr. Olango Vincent Otim  currently serves at Engineers in Green Actions-Africa as Board member and Treasurer. He  is a sociable, enthusiastic, people centred, confident and results driven Accountant with keen interest in furthering a professional career in Accounting and other aspects of the business. A flexible and adaptable individual and  a firm believer in teamwork. He is the Administrative Assistant in the Archdiocese of Gulu, Uganda, a position he has held from 2009.

Vincent was born in Gulu, Northern Uganda in 1952.  After his Primary education in 1967, he joined Awich Tutorial College (ATC) for a three years commercial course leading to the award of Intermediate Certificates of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).  Because Vincent was always leading and also having broken the record of passing examinations, he was appointed to teach in the College and he taught from 1971 to 1976.  He became a School Bursar and worked from 1976 to 1994.  From April 1994 to 1997 he was the Regional Accountant with Northern Integrated Teacher Education Project (NITEP), a component of Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Program (NURP).  Thereafter, he joined Catholic Relief Services (CRS) as a project Accountant and retired in 2008 at the position of Ag. Senior Finance Officer. The major responsibilities of his work at NITEP and CRS was reviewing the accountabilities of the partners, preparing returns for submission to the Country Office and training the partner staff in financial management.

In the course of his employment, he did quite a number of courses and obtained: Diploma in Business Administration (DBA), Accounting Technician Course (ATC) of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) and enrolled for the Certified Public Accountant and still pursuing. When pursuing the ATC, he was the best candidate in Uganda in Accounting paper in level I. Vincent obtained a certificate in Church Management and Leadership from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in 2009 passing with distinction. He attended other trainings and workshops e.g. with Uganda Management Institute (UMI) on managing the College Budget and later on trained the other bursars, USAID Administrative Compliance Requirements and Financial Management of USAID Awards, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshops on Financial Control and Taxation; Financial Management in the Public Sector; Financial Regulations Auditing Taxation and Interpersonal Relationships; Procurement, Budgeting, Taxation and Integrity; Financial Reporting, Project Monitoring & Evaluation and Job Interview; Fraud and Ethics; Organisational Development

He got appointments as a board member in a number of institutions serving as Chairperson of Finance Committee of the board: Gulu Core PTC, Human Rights Focus (HURIFO), Social Communication Gulu Archdiocese, Comboni Samaritan of Gulu. He was a founder member of Human Rights Focus (HURIFO) that was founded in 1994. Currently he is a Board member in BOSCO-Uganda Gulu Archdiocese, St Joseph’s College Layibi and EGAA. He chaired quite a number wedding and associations  meetings. 

He is married (wedded in the Catholic Church) with nine children: 3 with bachelor degrees, 2 with diplomas, 1 with advanced certificate in Carpentry and Joinery, 1 with craft certificate in building, 1 in year II pursuing bachelor degree in Counselling and Guidance and last born in P5.  He is living a happy marriage life in their own premises.  The family is operating an outside catering service, making cakes for weddings, baptism/birth days etc.
